My Mum doesn't like animation,
She does to a certain degree, but whenever she sees that I'm watching something that's animated and not live action it's immediately for kids. I've lived with this my whole life, as a die hard fan of ‘Avatar Last Airbender’ and ‘Invincible’ trying to explain to her that there are a lot more complexities to those shows that it just being an animated, nothing works. On the other side of the coin I'll tell her about great films like ‘The Wild Robot’ and ‘Wallace and Grommet’ and she loves those.
I've tried to cook and find something that can bridge the animation with something that she would love, and that thing was the new animated movie ‘Predator: Killer of Killers’

‘Predator: Killer of Killers’ is an anthology film based around the classic film protagonist AKA antagonist of the predator alien species (the Yautja for fellow nerds) that have come to earth during different time periods like Vikings and feudal Japan. Now that premise alone sold me, but then you put in that ‘Prey’ director Dan Trachtenberg was at the helm made me confident in its success in my goodness I was correct.
This film Simply put is the best predator movie that I have seen. The different time periods all have their interesting and meaningful stories that you can connect with, with the runtime of each story spending around 20 to 30 minutes, the writers get the most out of their stories that they can and I was truly blown away with how fleshed out these stories were, dealing with a range of different themes that were all unique to the characters that we are following. This is easily the best story telling the predator franchise has ever received.

The blood and gore that you expect from any predator movie is also present with the animation being able to dial it up to 11 to do some truly crazy things so for any fan of that type of action and just straight up alien badassery that the predator franchise is used to you're going to be in for an absolute treat as well. Easily my favourite kill is from the Japan section of the movie no spoilers of course but I leave it to you guys to guess what it is
The jump to animation is a very welcome change for the franchise, the animation itself is beautiful and unique. It's safe to say that there is a new coming of animated movies when it comes to the animation itself moving away from the heavy Disney Pixar and other companies like Illumination and DreamWorks sticking to the same type of animation that we've had for roughly 20 years. Films like Killer of Killers and many others are starting to break that cycle now and it's super refreshing to see unique forms of animation in regards to frame rate and just overall design that makes these films awfully inspiring to look at. I also give the biggest compliment to this movie as any film that when I look at fire reminds me of Studio Ghibli's fire is doing something right.
So overall, Predator Killer of Killers is the best predator film, while it might not have the nostalgia that the original does, this proves that you can teach old franchises new tricks, and if that trick produces one of the best animated films of the year (currently), I'd like to see what else they've got in store, easily a 9/10. I am confident to say that the predator franchise is safe in Dan Trachtenberg’s hands, here’s for Predator Badlands later this year

But the real question is did my Mum like this movie was I able to convert her using one of her favourite action franchises and prove to her that animation is not for kids? No, I didn't she said she hated this movie and that it reminded her of watching ‘Sharknado’ which was not a good experience for the both of us.
While that absolutely shattered my confidence in changing it also proves that sometimes people just don’t like certain things and at the end of the day that's okay. As long as we ALL remember that, cinema will be a positive place to share and love what films we want to.
I won't give up though, I promise that. If you have anything that you believe might change her mind, please inform me.
I love you mom, even if your taste in movies is questionable.
