Novocaine: Review and discussion

Original cinema is important to me

I love original stories, going to the movies to watch a concept that I myself have never heard of or even thought of. Whether that be horror movie that features deathly animatronics, A comedy about finding the Holy Grail or sharks in a tornado, my humble belief is that we need to support these movies to make sure that Hollywood and film studios alike don't just keep cranking out sequel after sequel, we can enjoy them yes but we still need original stories to fill our minds.

With that being said one original movie that I'm a bit upset not many people saw was Novocaine, the whole premise of Novocaine much like any other action save the damsel type movie like Die Hard was very plain and well known, but add a little spice, like making the protagonist immune to pain in any sense ? Attention grabbed. It's pretty simple when I write it out on my computer however this is what I mean when I say originality, this film could have easily been about the awkward random Joe that Jack Quaid played going to get a girl that he's fallen madly in love with however the addition of him being immune to pain allows for so much more creativity in a marks the writing, action and acting that gives a whole new experience to the viewer.

Novocaine's action sequences really push the envelope with the premise and use it to I believe it's maximum. As I do want you to watch this movie for those who haven't I won't spoil any of the fun ones however the creativity in conjunction with the environment really leads into the story quite well and while that story isn't anything revolutionary it's still a pleasant watch.

Jack Quaid proves that he is not just Hughie from The Boys, but someone who can actually act as different people with the charm and personality. He's definitely the standout in this film alongside Amber Midthunder who goes badass once more and also proves that Prey whether a 1 off for her either.

The film's surprisingly bright aesthetic lends to its visual style of wacky action sequences however the rest of the film isn't anything special. If you're after a fun time on the couch (with some pretty insane violence) then this is the movie for you. Its original ideas and expiration on the action hero formula it's a welcome escape from those that have come before and frankly I would love more people to experience it.  I can very much easily recommend Novocaine to anyone who hasn't seen it, and give it 7 out of 10.
